After Effects Logo Creation – Simplicity

Like many of our most successful creations, an effective logo begins with simplicity. If you review some of the most famous logos of popular business and brands, you will see their logos all share simplicity. What else is part of the magic ingredients for a catchy and successful logo?

Definitive shapes often speak to the brand or purpose of your logo but with only a little ‘real estate’ how can you make a strong impression while adhering to the simplicity guide? Symmetry and balance are wonderful tools. Even if your symmetry isn’t perfect it amplifies your statement. You can use geometric symmetry which is attractive in proportion. You can use symmetry in character size and boldness. Of course your image needs to be in some small way, a symbol.

If your business charters flight, or provides flight training, or discount tickets, wings would be perfect. Yet wings have an even greater symbolic meaning from timeliness or unbounded to the divine purpose of Hermes, messenger of the Greek gods. Just ask FTP florists. Many symbols transcend their most obvious meaning and this is another powerful element of designing your logo. We love symbols that are rooted in our past and you might wonder if some are embedded in our DNA.

Earth elements are quite powerful. How many logos draw upon sunlight, water, or growth? A leaf changing color speaks of season and rhythm while a butterfly recalls metamorphosis. The very concept of ‘casting light’ conveys bringing this subject into our experience.

With some ideas that connect with the business it’s time to hit the drawing board! I like to develop logos in After Effects but before you animate or add special effects you need to draw, you need to create your logo. In our world of digital imagery, Adobe Illustrator is among the most popular but the drawing techniques here could be applied with any.

Once you decide on a basic shape, a simple way to experiment with symmetry is the reflection tool. Choose your image, in Illustrator, be sure your image is a ‘group’ (control ‘G’), choose reflection, then enter ‘alt click’. Using the ‘alt’ key with your mouse click will produce the reflection options window instead of instantly producing a result. Here choose the orientation of your reflection and be sure to choose ‘copy’, we are creating symmetry. This will immediately produce a reflected image of your first design. It could be flowers or stars but this first step provides the added content and ‘symmetry’ of design.

Now develop contrast. Choose one of your reflected groups and rotate it a bit, or lower it’s opacity and slightly overlay the other group. Sharing the stage in this fashion adds depth and texture to your image. Slightly change the color of part of your design to create a soft contrast or if you seek a bold statement, use bold contrast. Consider images and text we’ve seen that portray the shutter of an explosion. as their multiple overlaid images and bold colors leap from the page. They announce an explosive new idea, an explosive new release, an explosive new recipe!

Finally, share. Share your imagination and ideas for your logo with a variety friends to get some nice objective feedback and different perspective. Colors, contrast, shading, balance, symmetry, and calling upon Earth’s secrets is a great start.

Video Review: Robot Tamashii Arios Gundam [HD]

READ ME! Watch in HD! My latest video review! It’s been a while! Up here is Bandai’s Arios Gundam from The Robot Spirits line of figures. What can I say, Bandai makes a good Gundam! Comments are appreciated as always, and I’ll take your questions if you have them. Please note that this video is shot with a digital camera that can take about 2:30 worth of video, which is why the video skips. It also has a crappy mic, which is why I’m actually dubbing over the video. Thanks for watching!

China’s Animation Industry Landscape As of 2008

Image : http://www.flickr.com

According to statistics collected until early 2008, China boasts over 30 animation industrial bases, 5400 animation companies, 450 high schools teaching certified animation courses, 460,000 students studying animation related subjects and 15,000 websites discussing animation. This was an increase of over 36% in comparison to 2006.

The growth of the China animation industry is simply astounding.

But two grim facts of China’s animation landscape remain still.

One – getting a foreign animation content to broadcast on China’s national TV is almost next to impossible.

Since 2004, the control over broadcasting foreign animation content has been tightened. Prime time slots are strictly reserved for China produced content and not more than 40% air time can be given to foreign animation content. Schemes were also hatched to give incentives to local companies to produce animation content.

This is done to encourage local Chinese companies to produce their own animation content and to leverage on the growing economy of China through licensing and merchandising with successful broadcasting.

Although officially there is a 40% allowance for foreign cartoon content to be broadcasted, the fact is, many of these content showing in China are old cartoon properties like Mickey and Donald and the Looney Tunes. There is obviously a massive barrier to newer cartoons and many foreign cartoon producers have spent years trying to get their shows to broadcast in China with little success.

Two – China produced animation content is still finding difficulties in finding its way into English-only speaking markets.

Now, it is not difficult to understand why China’s animation content is not popular with English-only speaking territories. Many of the Chinese cartoon properties are based on Chinese culture, heritage and humor and are hardly what you can call international.

The main reason for this is due to the fact that the Chinese cartoon producers have not been seeing a lot of modern foreign cartoon content! They simply have not seen enough to step out of their own culture and present something that is acceptable to both the East and the West! Meanwhile, big local corporations and the Chinese government continue pumping money into the animation industry believing that Chinese animation content would somehow find its way into the international marketplace.

It may also be worthwhile mentioning that despite all these efforts by the Chinese government to encourage the growth of the local animation industry and despite the fact that the animation industry has indeed grown in size; current local animation content only occupies an estimated 1% of the total air-time in demand!

The other 99% can easily be filled up by foreign cartoon properties but apparently, that is not going to happen in the near future unless the Chinese government loosens up on its broadcast policies. And until then, the landscape of the Chinese animation industry is going to toddle along at its own speed.

QueenAlice – The Site for Casual Chess on the Web (A Review)

Filed under: Anime Figure Articles —Tagged , , — metaemasculate @ 7:50 pm

Image : http://www.flickr.com

I’ve been playing chess since I was 15 years old. I was in the Chess Club in school. And I remember the big media blitz on chess during the Boris Spasky versus Bobby Fisher matches. Whew! That was a long time ago. But I’m still a big chess player. As such, I’m always on the lookout for a good internet based chess client where I can hang my chess hat. In my initial search I tried many different sites. I even paid for membership on one of the sites for awhile. But then I came across [http://www.queenalice.com!]

QueenAlice is a web based chess site that provides correspondence chess playing in a very laid back and non-intimidating environment. What attracted me to QueenAlice was the need to be able to play some chess with some of my remote friends, by making moves when I had the time. Which is where QueenAlice shines! When a player makes a move, QueenAlice will send an email to the opponent, letting them know that it’s their turn to move. Moves can be spread out for up to 14 days per move or up to 90 days per game. The email message contains a layout of the board and a history of the game moves.

One of the features that I use the most on QueenAlice is called the “Think” gear. When you click on this, you can move pieces around the board and try out different move combinations, without affecting the actual game. Then when you’re done trying out your “what if” positions, you click on the gear again and go back to the original board setup.

Currently there are just a little over 600 players, from all around the world. There is support for multiple languages and players can contribute to new translations if their language is not currently supported.

Players can play rated or nonrated games. Ratings are provisional during the first 25 games, and then the player gets an “established” rating. The rating calculations are posted on the site for review. There are also ongoing Round Robin and Swiss System tournaments.

The ART of Software Development in QueenAlice is in the feel of the site and the dedication of the author Miguel. The theme of the site is taken from the book “Through the Looking Glass” by Lewis Carroll. The site itself is very easy to use and does not promote the “pretentious” attitude found on many chess sites. It’s the perfect place to go for a “casual” game of chess. Miguel has done an excellent job of putting the site together. He’s always avalable to listen to comments and recommendations made by the users. Much of the feel and functionality of the site is due to comments from the players. There is an active forum on the site where players can discuss chess tatics, site functionality, or just life in general topics. I have found QueenAlice to be an excellent location for playing chess with many of my friends who are not computer or internet experts. It’s very easy to register and begin playing without having to jump through a lot of techical configuration hoops. And the site is currently free to use. It has been during the past few years that I’ve been using it. There is a minimal amount of advertising on the site, but it does not get in the way of playing or using the site.

Now if you’re looking for high end chess discussions with international chess masters and advocates, then you’ll be happier on other sites like The World Chess Network, The Red Hot Pawn, or The Internet Chess Club. If you want a casual game of chess, with some very friendly folks, on a very easy to use site, then QueenAlice is THE place to go. Now if they could just figure out how to serve expresso with each game. Check it out at http://www.queenalice.com

Anime TV Online and the Nature of Animation

Filed under: Anime Figure Articles —Tagged , , — metaemasculate @ 12:40 am

For those individuals who cannot get enough satisfaction from merely watching anime on television, anime TV online is good news for you. Complete anime lists are made available online, which connect you to video hosting sites for viewing. The lists are so comprehensive that all of them display anime titles that are not yet available for public viewing on traditional television networks.

The term anime is actually an abbreviation of the English word animation. Most western people regard anime as a media material coming from Japan but the term actually pertains to all animation media as a whole. Most fictional themes are expressed through anime. It had already conquered almost all media formats may it be in films, TV series, video games and even internet videos releases. Although it originally traces its origins back from Japan’s manga or comics, computer technology had aided anime makers to enhance its quality and make it a successful hit worldwide.

Some anime fanatics regard it as being a form of art, a medium that highlights its creator’s creative visual styles. However, most of the fans plainly see it as an exaggerated piece of entertainment media possessing overstated facial expressions, which attracts more viewers each day. It is also important to know that anime conveys numerous important stories and messages ranging from: hierarchy, politics, triumph of good over evil and impossibility becoming a reality. And probably the only best way to view complete anime series anytime of the day is through anime TV online or buy DVD at online retailers like Amazon.com.

Avatar Book 3 – The Plot and Ideas

Filed under: Anime Figure Articles —Tagged , — metaemasculate @ 5:30 am

Avatar: The Last Airbender is a popular cartoon show displayed regularly on the Nickelodeon channel. Created in 2005, the series is just as successful as it was back then, as is apparent in the large demand of fans requesting movies, video games, action figures, music, magazines, and other venues.

The story takes place in an Asian city, and Asian fighters use sparring styles (e.g., Tai Chi, Ba Gua, etc.) that are, of course, influenced by Asian cultures. Fascinatingly, the show has been nominated for prestigious awards (e.g., Emmy Awards, etc.), too. Thus, when Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko produced the show back in 2005 they probably had no idea that their creation would become one of the greatest animated cartoons (and fad) of the last decade.

There are three books in the Avatar series, and the central theme of the story is this: a young boy, Aang, is chosen as a the “avatar”, a position he hesitantly accepts. Aang and his pet bison, Appa, run away and get trapped in an iceberg, but are eventually freed (one-hundred years into the future) by individuals whom he and Appa befriend. He and his comrades go on a quest to stop the evil Fire Lord and Fire Nation (i.e., the antagonists of the series) from polluting the world in many ways, such as ensuring that the pirates do not seize the North Pole.

Aang becomes a professional water bender and accomplishes other tasks along the way, but eventually he is seriously injured by an evil nemesis: Azula. Thus, book two ends with Aang in critical danger, and this is where the author(s) leads up to the exciting climax of Avatar Book 3.

In Avatar Book 3, readers learn that Ba Sing Se, the capitol of the Earth, has been taken over, and that Aang has awakened alive on a Fire Nation’s ship. One of his friends, Sokka, decides that it is time to defeat the current Fire Lord. Thus, they carry on towards the palace of the Fire Lord, but find that the Fire Lord is not there. Eventually, Sokka comes up with a scheme to kill Azula and the Fire Lord; however, Aang, as he is harmonius and peaceful, swears not to take the life of any living being.

Aang, although peaceful, reluctantly takes on the Fire Lord, while his comrades (i.e., Sokka et al.) battle Azula. The protagonists, of course, are victorious, and Aang nearly kills the Fire Lord in his rage; however, he gets a grip on reality and stops before ending his life. With peace and order restored, Aang appoints his trusting friend, Zuko, as the new Fire Lord so that the world will not have to worry about any more destruction at the hands of a corrupt being.

It’s only love… If I could only have one desire fulfilled, I would wish to be sleeping by your side, wherever that may be In this beautiful world. I gaze at your determined figure – What a beautiful “girl”. Yet, you are unable to see your own beauty. It’s only love… Eating, sleeping and breathing animes, I hated myself in that passing dream filled with those images. I know that I don’t know what I want, Nonetheless, I want it… As tepid tears stream down my cheeks. I really have nothing I want to say to you, But I still want to see you one more time. The things that I want to say — I cannot say. Perhaps I am a coward, But it’s alright. If I were to have only one wish fulfilled, It would be to lie sleeping by your side, it doesn’t matter where that is.. In this beautiful world. I keep gazing at your determined figure – What a beautiful “girl”. Yet, you still can’t see the beauty within you. It’s only love… Trying my hand at almost anything, It all seems at a loss… Perhaps besides gaining some experience. I don’t see the need for newspapers, The things that are most important to people are not even in there. Have you been taking care of yourself recently? So long as you are well, I’ll be fine. If I don’t get to see you even when my world disappears, As long as I am resting beside you, any place is bearable In this beautiful world. In the midst of these fleeting days There stands a beautiful girl. My ever-shifting moods, nothing can be done to help them. If I could

6 Great Short Hair Styles For Anime Characters

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Most features on an anime character are simplistic. The boring features are usually minimalized or even ditched while the more interesting features are exaggerated. The great part about being a cartoonist is that you get to decide how complex you want this to be. hair is one of the places where you can let your creativity and style flourish.

Short hair is slightly more challenging to draw than normal hair because hair does crazy things when its shortened. With longer hair, the sheer weight of the hair pulls the hair down in a relatively consistent direction. But short hair can curl, bend, and go just about everywhere.

The top part of the head can be drawn as an extremely curving line, or can be drawn with simplistic alfalfa sprouts, or can be drawn using all sorts of triangles and curves.

Typically, the bangs are more complex than the rest of the hair on a short hairdo. This part of the hair has lines and strands that run the gamut. You can draw simplistic triangles or you can draw curves. You can make the bangs symmetrical, or you can have them go all over the place. You can have strands overlap or you can have each strand appear to neatly stay in their own corners.

The key is not to draw every single strand, but rather to try to draw huge chunks of hair. Not only is it difficult to see really fine strands of hair, but drawing clumps of hair is less time-consuming than working to draw every single strand of hair growing out of a character’s head. This especially makes drawing individual strands branching off from the sides of the heads a lot easier. It can seem like a nightmare trying to figure out how thin, yet normally visible strands of hair branch out.

Of course, lots of people might want to capture every single strand and draw the most realistic character possible. This is possible with a strictly pencil drawing. But it can get a lot trickier when you have to figure out the correct shades for each individual strand. This is possible, but it can be very time-consuming. This might be your bag. But if you’re interested in cartooning and want to save time, you might want to learn how to draw the outline of the hair, drawing out clumps of hair, and adding shading and highlights.

How to Draw Anime Characters

Filed under: Anime Figure Articles —Tagged — metaemasculate @ 7:20 pm

Image : http://www.flickr.com

You have probably seen them on the internet or on your everyday cartoon shows. Yes, anime cartoons are taking the world by storm and now you can get to learn how to draw your favorite anime cartoon character. If you are a budding cartoonist or animator then you probably want to learn how to draw anime.

Learning how to draw anime is not as easy as you might think it is and it takes hard work and determination to get the art just right. You can always come up with your own characters and make a cartoon series for yourself. There is one such anime cartoon that I found quite entertaining. It is called little Ninjai and can only be watched on the website online. The little Ninjai series shows a young ninja boy going through his own adventure as he meets various dangers that almost get him killed. Usually you can write to the creators of the Ninjai online cartoon series on ideas of different episodes which they will take and review before putting it on.

For you to learn how to draw anime of your own, it would be best if you first start with a pencil and paper. First try creating characters that you already know before creating your own character. Once you have mastered the art of drawing anime cartoons you can now create the same using your computer.

You will have to think of various ideas of what kind of characters you want your anime cartoon to depict. Such as do you want your cartoon to be about fantasy and fiction or to depict today’s growing times. Your story can be about epic adventure and can show stories on olden times.
